If Beyonce Lip-Synched, What’s The Big Deal?

MiannaControversy surrounds Beyonce; rumors spread about her performance at the Inauguration, and the question remains: did she sing The National Anthem live or was the performance pre-recorded?   Some are outraged at the thought that this performance may have been taped, but honestly is this really as big a deal as people are making it out to be?

There are certain scenarios where a singer needs to pre-record their song. We know that Beyonce can sing; she has an amazing voice. Is it possible this performance was just recorded to assure it went smoothly?    When Jon Stewart interviewed Jennifer Lopez on The Daily Show last Tuesday, he asked for her reaction, from a performer’s point of view…

“Sometimes it happens, when you’re in certain stadiums and certain venues, they do pre-record things, because you’re gonna have that terrible slap back,” Lopez said.

There are still those who claim Beyonce did in fact sing live, with evidence to prove it. Ian Shepard is a veteran recording engineer who broke down the evidence…

“She’s so good that her pre-recorded and live vocal are almost identical,” Shepard said. “That’s why it’s so hard to figure out and that’s why you look for quirks or technical issues.”

But what if it was taped? Would it be worse if she sang live and the slap back affected her and she performed badly?   Which scenario was preferable?
