Irma's impacts reach Grand Strand

With heavy rain and the potential for tornadoes not even forecasted until after 7pm along the Grand Strand, rain & high winds are still causing issues - particularly with high tide just before noon today. Garden City, Georgetown and Litchfield are experiencing flooding, according to reports. Check out a Facebook live video from our TV partner, ABC 15/WPDE , where the Pawleys Island causeways have been closed due to flooding, and a few houses have been evacuated.

ABC 15 is also reporting that Georgetown County has opened some evacuation shelters.

Meanwhile, The Myrtle Beach Sun News has been reporting from Garden City, where predictably high tide plus Irma's proximity meant the town's streets are badly flooded. Streeet video HERE. Dunes have been toppled by higher than usual waves. Video HERE

ABC 15 is reporting that the roof has been blown off the Garden City Inn.  Video below.

Flooding on Front Street in Georgetown has been brutal, and power's been cut off in that area to prevent fatalities.
